Prototyping - Learning How!

We were supposed to create prototypes of our suits but the first few sessions were about exploring how to prototype effectively to get our ideas across. Our biggest issue was finding the right resources, however we are definitely improving!!

NZ Playhouse - The Tortoise & The Hare

We enjoyed a very energetic and entertaining performance which was a wonderful example of performing arts. Lots of interactivity which left us exhausted! 🤣

Collaborating with Illuminate

Whilst the Year 8s were enjoying NIWA, the 7s had an opportunity to work together to share and create ideas for Illuminate. They were given a limited budget to create what they can as a reminder that time is running out and we need to find more resources!

Fifi Colston - Wearable Arts

A vital component of our project is designing with wearable art and we had the opportunity to bring in Fifi. She worked with two students from each class and helped them create some initial ideas to share with the class. The biggest takeaway was to ensure your design had a story.

Mr Hill

We are so fortunate to have Mr Hill as part of our arts, languages and tech rotation. He has recently had his work around coding published and is teaching our students the actual lesson. Looks very complicated! 🙈

Mandy Hager - Visting Author

On Friday we had a visit from the multi-award winning author Mandy Hager. She shared her journey of creating a book through her personal experiences and research. It was fascinating to hear how she came up with her ideas and the perfect reminder of how important planning and research is to the writing process.

Illuminate

On Wednesday NZ Ski came in to launch their exciting project with us called Illuminate. The students have to study light in Science and use their new knowledge to design and create two ski suits. One is for safety and the other is to enhance the atmosphere of the evening. There is a huge amount to consider but it should be a lot of fun getting there!

During our senior assembly we acknowledge all the wonderful learning in and out of school. This week Donna came to reward our students who helped with the Arrowtown Autumn Festival. Fantastic effort from the senior school. 👏

Art, Languages and Tech Rotations have begun!

Every Friday the students will enjoy two rotations of robotics, landscape art, hard tech, Japanese , French, music and more! 👏

Life Ed - Health

We have been enjoying some fascinating lessons around having a balanced diet and the food pyramid. Looks like we have plenty of treats but not enough fruit and veg. What a surprise! Can we change our diet to ensure its balanced?

Afternoon Rotations

Since we have come back from our camps we have enjoyed activities such as Life Skills (changing car tyre, rope knots), leadership & mind mapping, Science, PE skills and Disaster Prevention.

Leadership Opportunities

Mr Young shared some leadership opportunities for our students to apply for. He offered ambassador and peer mediator roles. Mr Bailey also offered Lost Property roles as we need support to help us and the school with looking after our belongings.

Food Preparation for Arrowtown Adventurer

A huge amount of planning and preparation goes into creating nutritious menus and packing the food. The house leaders spent the afternoon with Mr Hammond ensuring everything that was needed was stored in a box for each tribe.

Preparing for Riverton

The students have been planning their camp by organizing tents and sleeping arrangements. We have been looking at teamwork and creating goals. The lava game certainly tested our collaborative skills!

Girls Cricket

On Monday our Year 7&8 Girls Cricket Team played the Terrace School Girls Team in the Quarter Finals. They played a great game and won convincingly. Annie Sinclair got Player of the Day bowling 2 great wickets and a taking an awesome catch.

The girls next game is the Semi-Finals which will be against the winner of Balmacewen and Weston. All the lunch time training with Miss Keane has paid off! 👏

Preparing For Camp

Both Adventurers got into their tribes/houses to practice putting up their tents and to check everything was there. There were definitely a few surprises on the way, the biggest was not being able to put it back in the bag! 😂 Great fun though!

NZ Open

An interesting day for our media team who were taken to the NZ Open at The Hills and given a behind the scenes tour.

While there we were proud to see ex-Arrowtown student Laura Hoskin competing in the open.
